Blackberry 10 (BB10) has done just about everything it can to ensure it leaves the thirb spot behind. RIM now called Blackberry run its new operating system Blackberry 10. The Blackeberry Z10 is available to buy in the UK starting at £36 per month on contract and £480 for a SIM free handset.
The Z10 is yet to be released in March in US. The Blackberry Z10 is competing for position with Nokia Lumina 920, iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3. Blackberry Z10 is a solid phone constructed from plastics, soft touch rubber and aluminium, the hardware is similar to the top line Android and Windows phone handsets.
The BlackBerry Z10 Design
Blackberry Z10 has a unique looking is a little thicker and wider than the iPhone but not as heavy as Nokia Lumia 820/920, its curved edges and textured carbon back ensure it is still comfortable to hold in one hand.
The handset look a bit like iPhone 5 in term of shape and finishing, although there is a lot of other design which differentiate itself from iPhone 5. The Z10 front panel is broken up by horizontal bands that span the top and the bottom unlike iPhone 5.
The BlackBerry Z10 doesn’t have any button on the front panel, has a large display along with two-tone chassis. There is a soft-grip rubber on the back panel and also has a removable battery.
The handset measuring at 66mm (2.6 inches) wide, 130mm (5.13 inches) tall, and 9.3mm (0.37inch) thin.
There is only few buttons on the handset, which includes sleep/wake toggle at the top-center, there are three-way volume rocker on the right. Discrete buttons allow you to raise or lower volume, while a third button in the middle acts as a play / pause button and also toggles BlackBerry's new Voice Control.
There is two ports on the left handside which are micro-USB and Micro-HDMI connection, along with the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The BlackBerry Z10 Processor and Battery life
The BlackBerry Z10 is powered with a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU along with it 2GB RAM. The processor speed is impressive.
There is a 1800mAh removable battery, which gives you an average of 8 hours and 11 minutes on a fixed brightness and look a video endellessly.
The BlackBerry Z10 Display
and a 4.2 inch, 4 point multi touch LCD display, 1280×768 pixel touchscreen at 356 ppi. The screen is small so it wont be such a cunsumer hit. There is no QWERTY keyboard, trackpad and physical buttons.
With this display the text is rendered clearly which makes surfing feels great as well as photo viewing is very good. The screen is also visible outdoors in direct sunlight, also contrast and color satuartion is pretty amazing.
The BlackBerry Z10 Camera
Blackberry Z10 has an 8 megapixel rear facing camera, auto focus, 1080p HD video recording, and 5 X digital zoom, a 2 megapixel front facing camera, 720p HD video recording and 3 x digital zoom.
Blackberry Z10 has time Shift mode which captures milliseconds before and after your photo—so you can scroll back on the dial to open one friend’s eyes and then forward to catch your other friend smiling, before combining it all to create the perfect picture. It also has BlackBerry Flow, which enables users to move easily and smoothly between apps.
The BlackBerry Z10 Storage
The handset comes with 16 GB of internal storage, and a hot swappable micro SD Slot. BB10 offers corporate users a feature called BlackBerry Balance. However the handset does not support cards larger than 32GB.
The BlackBerry Z10 connectivity
There is a NFC antenna which is built into the backplate, while the rest of the communications are better integrated into the chassis itself.
BlackBerry will offer four separate SKUs of the Z10, effectively boiling down to one for each of the US LTE carriers (AT&T, Verizon and Sprint) plus an HSPA+ model. The version we tested offered quadband LTE at 2, 4, 5, 17 (700/850/1700/1900MHz) plus pentaband HSPA+ I, II, IV, V, VI (800/850/1700/1900/2100MHz) and quadband EDGE.
A second LTE / CDMA model, might be intended for Verizon, offers LTE band 13 (700MHz), dual-band CDMA (800/1900MHz), dual-band HSPA+ I, VIII (900/2100MHz) and quadband EDGE. A third LTE model offers quad-band LTE at 3, 7, 8, 20 (800/9001800/2600MHz), quadband HSPA+ at I, V, VI, VIII (800/850/900/2100MHz) and quadband EDGE.
Furthermore there is the pentaband HSPA+ model at I, II, V, VI, VIII (800/850/900/1900/2100MHz) with quadband EDGE. Those are all paired with 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, the phone also offers an accelerometer, gyro, magnetometer and, of course, GPS.
The BlackBerry Z10 Other features
Blackberry Z10 has a Blackberry hub - which enables you to see you messages and conversations, BBM Video to talk face to face with others and a screen share feature to show photos, your browser or review business documents together and you can also share the view from your camera.
There is are some few apps includes Twitter and also the BlackBerry reported to have had over 70,000 applications and games available for BB10 at launch.
It is not going to be easy moving from Android or iOS as you will miss features like, IMDB, Google Reader, Natwest, Skydrive, Google Drive, Smart Glass, and Pocket
